Martin DAMSBO (DEN)
Compound Men   Rodger WILLETT JR (USA) – gold medallist and winner of the Longines Prize for Precision My opponent in the final, Reo WILDE (USA), is probably the best compound archer in the world. Other athletes like the bronze medallist Sergio PAGNI (ITA), or Braden GELLENTHIEN and Jesse BROADWATER (USA), who had not qualified for this Final, are such great competitors. I feel very fortunate that I have beaten Reo today and won the Archery World Cup. I really thank God for the help he has given me. This title however will not change much in my life, although I am really glad that I have now a nice collection of Longines watches (smiling). I love them! The most important is my wife's support and I am glad that I will take a little break and spend more time with her until my next big tournament, which will be in January.   Sergio PAGNI (ITA) – bronze medallist People say third time lucky or third time unlucky. It turned out that the third (Final) was the unlucky one. The wind played some bad jokes on me. I am still very happy that it was my third grand Final in a row and that I reached the podium again, after my two victories in the last two years. I did it with different competition rules every year! I must say I haven’t totally assimilated the last rule change—shooting at 50 metres. I am not so confident at 70 metres. I did not have many top 3 finishes this season. So I have to go back to work. I am happy for Rodger WILLETT JR that he won this Final, because he truly dominated the season. It is easy to lose the Final. So it is good that he was the leader all season long AND won the final event!   Martin DAMSBO (DEN) – defeat in quarterfinals (Disappointed) I will go back this afternoon on the warm-up/training field and learn how to shoot. At the same time, I must say the match was close and I lost by only one point. It is always difficult to shoot by the sea, the wind is tricky. If you look at the scores today, they are quite low. I think the fans want us to shoot high scores. I understand the importance of having a great, special venue, but could we also think a bit more about the wind conditions? I am sure they are some great places downtown and a bit more protected from the wind.    I admit that in big games I lose more often than I win. However, if I look at experienced archers such as Rodger WILLETT JR or Dietmar TRILLUS, I still have a lot of years ahead of me. A good archer must have shot thousands and thousands arrows in his live. Back home, it is not always easy to shoot a high number of arrows. I will keep practicing, keep shooting. My goal was anyway to qualify for this Final, my second in a row. I hope that I will come back in it until I win it!   Compound Women   Erika ANSCHUTZ (USA) – gold and winner and the Longines Prize for Precision photo left The keys to victory are a lot of practice AND a lot of confidence. You must feel confident in your shots. Today I met my friend and teammate Christie COLIN in the final. She is a great competitor. We have played against each other so many times in our careers and, coming here, we had the goal to meet again in the gold medal match. Since I was coming off two 2nd places at the World Cup stages in Ogden and Shanghai, I am very happy that I won here. The prizes and the monney won will be quite useful: I just bought a new car and we are buying a house and getting married with my fiancé!   Marcella TONIOLI (ITA) – bronze I did not shoot really well today, but the wind was very tricky. It was changing direction and you never knew when it was coming. It was not consistent, so really not easy to handle. Nevertheless I am very happy with my season. This is the first time that I broke into the national team. I won the bronze medal in mixed teams at the world championships and now I am 3rd at the World Cup Final. This is great!   World Archery Communication
