Athlete of the Week: Elena RICHTER (GER)

Elena RICHTER has had a good season this year. She won a team bronze medal at the European Championships and competed in her first Olympic Games in London. Right after the Games, she travelled to Val d’Isere, France for the Field World Championships. As the reigning European field champion, she was considered a favourite to win the world title.   The event started very well for Elena RICHTER, who won the bronze medal as a member of the German team. Individually, the 23-year-old archer from Berlin shot solidly in the elimination rounds. She faced the world field youth champion Zoe GOBBELS (BEL) in the gold medal match. The German Olympian was very consistent, scoring 12 points on each target, for an easy victory 48-41.      GOBBELS, RICHTER and Naomi FOLKARD (GBR) This was the first senior world championships title for Elena RICHTER. She had been a very successful junior, winning European titles (team 2003 and individual 2007) as well as several youth world championships medals. Prior to Val d’Isere she had won only one world championships medal at the senior level—a team silver at the 2009 Indoor World Championships.   Biography Extract:   Elena RICHTER (GER) – Born on 3 July 1989   1st Individual World Field Championships Val d’Isere 2012 3rd Team World Field Championships Val d’Isere 2012 17th Individual Olympic Games London 2012 3rd Team European Championships Amsterdam 2012 3rd Individual European Olympic Qualifier 2012 5th Individual Indoor World Cup Final Las Vegas 2012 1st Individual European Field Championships 2011 9th Team World Championships Turin 2011 2nd Mixed Team European Championships Rovereto 2010 9th Team World Championships Ulsan 2009 2nd Team World Indoor Championships Rzeszow 2009   More results information on Elena RICHTER and all other archers on the World Archery website.   World Archery Communication
