World Archery signs three-year broadcast deal with Eurosport
Eurosport and Eurosport 2 will show highlights from each Archery World Cup stage in 2014: Shanghai, Medellin, Antalya and Wroclaw. The Final in Lausanne will have two dedicated live programmes on Eurosport 2 – with highlights after on both Eurosport and Eurosport 2.
The broadcast schedule for this week’s World Archery Indoor Championships has already been announced. Eurosport 2 will carry repeat broadcasts on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 March 2014, with highlights broadcast on Eurosport on Wednesday 5 March.
Eurosport Asia-Pacific also has the option to broadcast live or delayed coverage of the 2014 World Archery Indoor Championships in Nimes, or this season’s Archery World Cup Final.
Over the second and third years of the deal, Eurosport will showcase Archery World Cup stages and Finals, World Archery Championships and highlights from other major events.
To complement the broadcast programme, World Archery has planned strong promotional campaigns on Eurosport’s television and digital networks. They begin with a brand new 30-second promotional spot that debuts on Eurosport networks on 1 March, to coincide with the first day of world championship coverage.
Last year, World Archery reached over 125 million people worldwide on the Eurosport network with live coverage and highlights, television and new media advertising campaigns: an unprecedented audience in Europe for the sport outside of the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Viewers were treated to World Cup Final atmosphere while watching the world’s best archers compete under the Eiffel Tower in Paris and world championship tension on Belek beach in Turkey during the 2013 archery season.
An Olympic broadcast partner for over 20 years, Eurosport has seen ratings for live archery positively increase in recent years – especially since London 2012. With the network’s expertise and experience in televising Olympic sports, World Archery expects to see viewing figures continue to rise in 2014 and beyond.
World Archery Secretary General Tom DIELEN said: “Eurosport’s coverage of the Archery World Cup circuit and world championships in 2013 saw a larger audience captivated by archery’s own international calendar than ever before. The continued demand for images of our sport puts us in an encouraging position as we reach the halfway point in this Olympic cycle, and it’s a privilege to be back on Eurosport for the next three years.”
Eurosport Group Commercial Director Olivier FISCH said: “Archery’s multi-media visibility continues to grow across the Eurosport platforms. For the next three years, fans will be able to follow the Archery World Cup from start to finish on television and the circuit will engage a huge number of new viewers. Archery will become a regular fixture which will enable fans to follow the competitions and athletes more easily, and we’re looking forward to sending images of this exciting and enjoyable Olympic sport to millions of homes around the world.”
