Ukraine: indoor champions with outdoor ambitions

“Our team is strong and will fight for a medal,” said Viktor RUBAN. The 2008 Olympic champion led teammates Heorhiy IVANYTSKYY and Dmytro HRACHOV to a straight-set win over the United States – before the trio surrendered just two set points to Malaysia.

They came up short against Japan in the semifinals. Four-nil down, a comeback was on the cards before IVANYTSKYY let loose a wild arrow that scored just a single point. It sealed the match.

Ukraine’s men won the indoor world title at Nimes 2014 and admitted it was difficult to transition into outdoor shooting.

RUBAN said they focused on not letting the bad weather bother them.

It was quite the opposite for the United States’ Brady ELLISON. “We couldn’t figure out the wind,” he said after the first round loss. “Ukraine clearly outscored us.”
