Antalya 2014 eliminations: early round recurve casualties

1) Karina WINTER (GER): The only German lady not to make a medal match so far this season, Karina looked to be in with a shot in Antalya. She lost in the first round in a five-set, first-round upset.

2) Maja JAGER (DEN): “I got tricked by the wind,” said the reigning World Champion. “I managed to lock it in after first two sets, but it was too late to come back.” Still based in Korea, JAGER is sitting about five ranking spots away from a Lausanne invitation.

3) Juan Rene SERRANO (MEX): Sitting just outside of the ranking cut for Lausanne righ tnow, SERRANO now has one last opportunity to pick up points – in Wroclaw. He wasn’t upset after losing this morning, though: “It was a really good match. He started beating me, then I recovered… for the shoot-off, we both aimed centre but mine was a little further out.” The experienced SERRANO admitted that although he loves shoot-offs he “needs a little more practice.”

4) Sjef VAN DEN BERG (NED): “I’m a little angry right now,” said Sjef. “As you can probably understand.” Arrows he thought were good fell into the red. He’s not collected any World Cup ranking points yet this season.

5) Viktor RUBAN (UKR): Beijing 2008’s Olympic Champion started off 2014 with a strong performance at the Nimes world indoors. Without any World Cup points, he’s all but out of the race for Lausanne.
