Chinese Taipei recurve women’s team already took gold in Antalya.

Chinese Taipei’s recurve teams will shoot for both gold medals in Salt Lake City at the third stage of the 2017 Hyundai Archery World Cup. After the women’s team meet Olympic Champion Korea, the men will take on Russia.

Tan Ya-Ting, Le Chien-Ying and Peng Chia-Mao beat women’s trios from Kazakhstan and Colombia to make the semifinals against Mexico.

“We arrived in Salt Lake City a week ago as we came here directly from Antalya. Here it’s windier than in Turkey, so the best thing to do is shoot the arrows without hesitation, being determined and not thinking too much about the shot,” said Tan.

Chinese Taipei and Mexico opened their match with 53, splitting the first set, then the former jumped to a 3-1 lead, 52 to 51. In the last Mexico dipped down to 49, allowing Chinese Taipei to bag a windy, 5-1 win with a 50.

Chinese Taipei will face eight-time Olympic Champion Korea in the final. Peng said: “All we can do now is keep practising, feel the wind direction and keep encouraging ourselves.”

Wei Chun-Heng, Peng Shih-Cheng and Deng Yu-Cheng beat Mexico’s men in a shoot-off to make the finals against Russia, who had knocked out the top-seeded Koreans earlier in the bracket.

Chinese Taipei shot a pair of 10s and a nine. Mexico: a 10, eight and a seven.

“I was very excited and enjoyed getting into a shoot-off,” said Wei. “We haven’t been very consistent lately, so we’ve been trying out different combinations and see what works best.”

The third stage of the 2017 Hyundai Archery World Cup runs 20 to 25 June in Salt Lake City, USA.
