Following his victory in the recurve men’s field archery competition, in which he defeated favourite and four-time Hyundai Archery World Cup Final Champion Brady Ellison in the gold medal match, Italian archer Amedeo Tonelli was named athlete of the day at the World Games.

“This is my first World Games title, my first big individual competition. I’ve been out of the international competition for while, so this is a big achievement for me,” said Tonelli after his final.

“I’m pretty happy to contribute to the Italian tradition of being consistent and good in field archery.”

Tonelli received his award in front of crowds gathered in Wroclaw’s Games Plaza.

Olympic silver medallist Lisa Unruh from Germany won gold in the recurve women’s event, beating defending champion Naomi Folkard in a single-arrow shoot-off in the final.

Competition at the World Games continues with the barebow field archery event and concludes with the compound target archery competition on 29/30 July.

The recurve field archery competition at the Wroclaw 2017 World Games ran 23-26 July in Szczytnicki Park.
