Host Malaysia took five of the available six team titles to top the medal table in the archery competition at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur. On home soil, Malaysian archers took gold medals in the compound men’s and women’s team and mixed team, and recurve men’s and women’s team events.

Wardhana Prima Wisnu, Sri Ranti and Choirunisa Diananda all took individual wins – and Indonesia was also victorious in the recurve mixed team competition – while Chu Duc Anh of Vietnam, the world number 268, upset top seed Khairul Anuar Mohamad for the recurve men’s gold.

Malaysia’s Mazuki Mohd Juwaidi finished the event with the most medals of any athlete.

He collected gold medals in the compound men’s team and mixed team competitions and was runner-up individually.

“I dedicate these gold medals to all Malaysians, particularly to my family and wife who are unable to come down,” he told reporters at the conclusion of the team finals. “This victory is very meaningful for Malaysia.”

The archery competitions at the 2017 Southeast Asian Games ran 14-22 August in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
