Both the cadet women’s and men’s squads shot world-best ranking rounds in Rosario.

Compound cadet teams, both men and women, from the USA added two more world records in the afternoon on ranking round day at the 2017 World Archery Youth Championships in Rosario, Argentina, after the nation’s junior women broke a record during the morning session.

Anthony Ferraro, Dane Johnson and Ethan Merrill scored 2087 points to beat the compound cadet men’s team qualifying world record, previously held by Turkey, by 39.

Sachiko Keane, Breanna Theodore and Savannah Vanderwier’s 2045 points was 26 more than the standing compound cadet women’s best, set by Great Britain, at 2019.

“Everyone put in the same amount of work to get here and it’s very humbling to know that our work showed on the paper today,” said Theodore.

A compound cadet women’s team from the USA has won the world title each time its been awarded, six in total, since 2006.

There’s pressure on the girls to repeat in Rosario.

“It’s going to be awesome. I trust my teammates. They’re amazing shooters and I feel this year all of us have improved majorly, and so it’s all positivity going into the event. I know we’re going to do well,” added Theodore.

Both records were broken by multiple teams in Rosario.

Mexico, Great Britain, Russia and Canada were all also above the men’s record line and Great Britain and Mexico topped the previous women’s score, with the US.

“It’s pretty crazy. All these teams just keep getting better and I think it’s great that we’re up there with them,” said Merrill.

Despite taking top team seeds, States athletes were kept out of the individual poles.

Bryan Alvarado of Puerto Rico ranked as the top compound cadet man with 702 points, followed by Johnson on 701 and Merrill on 699.

Mexico’s Andrea Becerra and Elizaveta Koroleva of Russia tied with 691 points at the top of the compound cadet women’s leaderboard and Keane seeded third on 686.

The Rosario ranking rounds saw a total of six world records broken, five team and one individual.

The 2017 World Archery Youth Championships run 2 to 10 October in Rosario, Argentina.
