World Archery Excellence Centre hosts 8th Coaching Seminar
The eight World Archery Coaching Seminar took place on 26 to 28 January 2018 at the World Archery Excellence Centre in Lausanne, Switzerland, attracting 52 coaches representing 27 countries from four continents.
“An increasing attitude of professionalism in archery has gone hand-in-hand with an increase in the level and capacity of world-class coaches,” said World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen.
“Strong coaching is the cornerstone of archery’s growth and this international conference, held in 2018 at World Archery’s new hub for international development in Lausanne, ensures that coaches who are at the forefront of the field may continue to share and learn.”
Presentations at the seminar focused on team management and the planning of high-performance programmes, doping prevention, shooting form and physical training, and competition responsibilities.
Good practice in relation to athlete management gave key insight into how some of the world’s best archery teams perform at a high level. Simple but concrete tasks such as locating nearby shops, preparing individual athlete schedules and extensive use of modern communication tools like Whatsapp were given as examples.
The World Archery Coaching Seminar is an international conference held every two years that brings together the brightest minds in archery coaching. The event provides a platform to share, learn and discuss archery coaching subjects and is open to coaches via World Archery national member associations.
The next World Archery Coaching Seminar will be held in 2020.
