Sara Lopez has archery range named after her in hometown of Pereira
Three-time Hyundai Archery World Cup Champion Sara Lopez now has an archery range carrying her name. The new facility, which opened on 15 June, is in her hometown of Pereira and makes her one of the few living Colombian athletes to have received such recognition.
It is a Colombian tradition to name sports facilities after athletes who have died but the local mayor and governor worked to make Sara one of the nation’s few exceptions.
“It was a long process but it’s really cool because I pass by the field every day on my way home,” said Sara. “I feel that I’m achieving something I have always wanted to do, and that is to leave a legacy in my city. I think this is a good start.”
Located in Pereira city sports complex, the dedicated archery field was funded by the town hall and built by the regional government.
A multiple world record holder and three-time Hyundai Archery World Cup Final Champion, Sara secured her ticket to the 2018 World Cup Final in Samsun by taking gold at stage one in Shanghai.
She recently became South American Games Champion and will compete at the third stage of the international circuit in Salt Lake City.
Sara Lopez was the world’s number two ranked compound woman as of 17 June 2018.
