Mario Scarzella re-elected as World Archery Europe president for 4th term

Mario Scarzella was re-elected as president of World Archery Europe for another four-year term running until 2022 at the continental federation’s congress in Legnica, Poland, just before the start of the 2018 European Archery Championships.

The Italian Archery Federation president received 41 supporting votes out of 42 (one abstention) and receives a fourth successive term as continental president.

“The concept of archery really developed in the recent years. The competition format was adjusted and we brought [the sport] to television so that many spectators can see [it], while in the past it was not like that,” the re-elected president said.

“The main goal is to bring the finals or the archery events to the city centres, to the places where visibility is really high. The number of archers grew in the last years and the level of our competitions rose, as well.”

Alessandra Colasante was named secretary general after Marinella Pisciotti resigned from the position. Hakan Cakiroglu of Turkey was re-elected to the position of vice-president, also for four years.

Among other elections were Croatia's Darko UIdl joining the executive board and Maria Kirillipoulou from Greece being appointed youth commission member.

The opening ceremony of the Legnica 2018 European Archery Championships takes place on Monday 27 August.

The World Archery Europe congress took place on 26 August in Legnica, Poland, before the 2018 European Archery Championships take place on 27 August to 1 September.
