Archery competition confirmed for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

Archery was included in the list of 22 sports that the International Paralympic Committee has announced will comprise the programme of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, France.

The programme will remain the same in 2024 as in 2020 when the next Paralympics take place in Tokyo.

Archery was featured at the first Paralympic Games in Rome in 1960 and has remained in the programme ever since. Paris marks the 17th edition of the multisport event.

The archery venue at Les Invalides is one of the most iconic spots in Paris and will likely be one of the most memorable and recognisable events of the Paralympics in 2024.

The founder of the Paralympic movement Dr Ludwig Guttmann used archery as a rehabilitation activity for wounded veterans. He first organised the Stoke Mandeville Games for the Paralysed in 1948, which was an archery competition between 16 people and the precursor to the Paralympics.

World Archery Secretary General Tom Dielen said: “Archery is at the core of the Paralympic Games’s history and an important sport on the modern programme.”

“We’re happy that archery’s talented para athletes will continue to contest podiums at the Paralympic Games through to Paris 2024.”
