Indian team withdraws from opening stage of 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup

The Indian team scheduled to compete at the first stage of the 2019 Hyundai Archery World Cup in Medellin, Colombia has withdrawn due to complications that arose when travelling to the event.

None of the 23 athletes and staff were able to complete the trip in time for the start of competition so have returned to the team’s training camp.

Indian compound archer Abhishek Verma posted on his Facebook page that he was “absolutely gutted to miss out” but that he would move on and was “looking forward to being in top shape” for his next event.

The initial plan was for the team that would represent India at this summer’s Hyundai World Archery Championships would also compete at stages one and three of the Hyundai Archery World Cup, while a second team would attend stage two.

However, with Medellin now passing without Indian representation, it will be interesting to see whether that strategy changes.
