Algeria to host second African para archery coaching seminar in October 2019

Algeria is set to host the second para archery seminar for coaches in Africa on 30 September to 11 October 2019 in the capital of Algiers, following a successful inaugural event in late 2018

The course, which is designed to give coaches the knowledge required to teach archery to people with impairment, is already open for registration. It will be split into two parts.

World Archery’s development agent in Africa, Khaled Lamandé, will first lead a World Archery level one coaching course. Experts from Great Britain Kieran Carr and Andy Rikunenko, along with Vicent Hybois of France, will then conduct sessions focused specifically on coaching para athletes.

“This course is part of a para archery development programme for the continent. Africa was only represented by one country at the last Paralympic Games in Rio and the goal is to improve that number,” said Khaled.

The para archery coaching seminar is supported by UK Sport, Archery GB, French Handisport and the Algerian Shooting Federation.

France has been active in supporting judge training in Africa, too. French judge Stephane Valette held a course in Abidjan ahead of the Ivory Coast Grand Prix and Tizocata tournament earlier this summer.

Future education programmes run by the French federation in Africa will include classification and event organisation.
