Youth Olympians Reddig, Tolba top qualification at 2019 African Games
Tolba scored 656 out of a possible 720 points for the 72-arrow 70-metre ranking round to lead the recurve men‘s field by a clear 23. Cote d’Ivoire’s Franck Eyeni was second on 633 and Tolba’s Egyptian teammate Sherif Mohamed third with 627.
Quinn’s 629-point round led Olympian Reem Mansour, also from Egypt, by seven at the top of recurve women’s qualifying.
Both Youssof Tolba and Quinn Reddig competed at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, finishing ninth in their individual events. Reddig was also a bronze medallist in the mixed nation mixed team competition.
There are six quota places for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games available in Rabat. Two spots will be given to the winning recurve mixed team and the remaining four to the countries of the next-highest finishing men and women (two per gender).
Sixty-two archers, 38 recurve men and 24 recurve women, are taking part in the archery competitions at the 2019 African Games in Rabat. It is the first time archery has been included on the programme of the continental multisport event.
The competition runs until finals on Friday.
