Chinese teams set three world records at Asian Para Championships

China set new world records for the recurve open mixed team, compound women open team and compound open mixed team ranking rounds as Chinese archers dominated qualification at the 2019 Asian Para Championships in Bangkok, Thailand.

Wu Chunyan and Wang Sijun raised the recurve mixed team record by six points to 1287.

Lin Yueshan and He Zihao scored 1395 to increase the compound mixed team record, previously held by teammates Zhou Jiamin and Ai Xinliang, by 14.

Lin, Zhou and Li Xinru also added 30 points to the compound women’s open team qualifying world best. That record now sits at 2067.

All six individual top seeds at the championships were taken by Chinese para athletes.

Wang Sijun and Wu Chunyan ranked top in the individual competitions; He Zihao and Lin Yueshan were the top-scoring compounders, and Zhang Tianxin and Chen Minyi led the W1 events.

These championships also act as a continental qualification tournament for the Tokyo 2020 ParalympicsChina has already qualified 11 quota places for the Games – leading all nations – but can add one more spot in the compound women’s event in Bangkok.

The 10 Paralympic places available will be awarded on Friday 25 October. Asian champions will be crowned on Thursday 24 October.

The 2019 Asian Para Archery Championships take place on 20-25 October in Bangkok, Thailand.
