British 19-year-old Ella Gibson shoots world-record 596-point indoor qualification
As Gibson is only 19 years of age, the score will also be ratified as a junior record.
The previous mark of 595 points was shot by the USA’s Erika Jones at the World Archery Indoor Championships in Nimes in 2014.
Gibson shot her first international senior season in 2019.
She made the second round in her first two Hyundai Archery World Cup stage appearances and finished ninth at the third in Berlin. Paired with James Mason at the latter, she won the mixed team title.
Ella currently sits at 29th in the compound women’s world rankings. This record indicates she might well climb much higher than that.
A second record score was shot on the same target at the GT Open.
Competition at the GT Open continues with two more rounds of qualification on Saturday 23 November.
The second event of the 2020 Indoor Archery World Series is the GT Open on Friday 22 to Sunday 24 November 2019.
