Pearce defeats Ochoa-Anderson in first Lockdown Knockout women’s quarterfinal

World championship runner-up Paige Pearce, shooting from her kitchen in California, beat Linda Ochoa-Anderson, 145-142, to secure a spot in the Lockdown Knockout semifinals.

Paige joins Anders Faugstad and Mike Schloesser in the last four.

“That was really nerve-wracking. I wasn’t expecting that. It’s pretty awesome. I’m just glad we can compete again,” she said.

Linda shot probably the best opening arrow of any archer so far in the tournament. She clipped the top of the X in the bottom left face of the triangular targets in use during this Lockdown Knockout.

But each end, Linda leaked one or two out of the little 10. Those dropped points quickly added up.

Many of Paige’s arrows hit the edge of the 10-ring but the majority of them broke the line. She cruised through the final two ends, reaching a total of 145 for the 15-arrow match and securing a three-point win.

Four of the five points that Paige dropped were on the top target. None were more than two millimetres out.

So far, we’ve had archers shoot indoors, in ranges and garages, and outdoors. Paige is the first to participate in the event from her kitchen.

Linda used the same range in her basement as husband Steve did for his match over the weekend.

“It’s nice to feel nervous again. It was fun and I’m really excited I got nervous again,” said Linda. “I’m happy to have shot against Paige and I’m sure she’s gonna do great in the next one.”

There is just one remaining place in the semifinals available. Sara Lopez and Toja Ellison will shoot to decide which of them fills it tomorrow, Tuesday 12 May, at 17h00 CET.

The Lockdown Knockout is the first remote international event being streamed live across World Archery’s digital platforms.
