Paris reveals medals for Olympics, releases more archery tickets

Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic medals.

The designs of the medals for the upcoming Olympic and Paralympic Games were unveiled on 8 February as Paris 2024 also released an additional round of spectator tickets for general sale.

This summer’s medals are adorned with original metal taken from the Eiffel Tower.

The hexagon-cut iron – representing the shape of the country of France – was saved during renovation work over the last century. It’s been repurposed, emblazoned with the Games logo, and repurposed into a new piece of history.

While the rear of the Olympic medals features the traditional image of the Greek goddess of victory, Nike, the Paralympic medal includes ‘Paris 2024’ written in braille. The now-universal script for the visually impaired was invented in France by Louis Braille.

The medals were designed by Chaumet, a luxury jeweller in Paris, and are being produced by the Monnaie de Paris, which also produces World Archery’s world championship medals.

Medals will be awarded in five Olympic archery events on 25 July-4 August and nine Paralympic archery events on 29 August-5 September, with both competitions taking place on the iconic Esplanade des Invalides in the heart of the French capital.

Limited tickets are still available to purchase online.
