Preview: Archery World Cup gold medallists to shoot at University Games

Hyundai Archery World Cup gold medallists are set to compete at the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany.
This 32nd edition of the multisport event will feature 18 sports, including archery, and welcomes athletes who are currently studying or have recently graduated from university.
A total of 284 archers from 52 countries are entered in recurve and compound events, with qualifications held at the Sportpark Am Hallo Stadion and finals at the iconic Zeche Zollverein – the same venues used for last year’s European Archery Championships in Essen.
Unlike the senior continental event in 2024, this tournament features a younger field, typical of a University Games, though many squads include athletes with elite-level experience following the recently concluded stages of the Hyundai Archery World Cup.
India’s Madhura Dhamangaonkar – one of six archers from a full 12-athlete Indian delegation – won compound women’s gold at this year’s second stage in Shanghai and has already qualified for October’s Hyundai Archery World Cup Final in Nanjing.
Great Britain’s Ajay Scott, who took mixed team gold in Shanghai, will shoot in the compound men’s event on his multisport debut, while Trenton Cowles is set to represent the USA in recurve men’s after contributing to the team’s silver in Madrid, the final stage of the 2025 circuit.
Cowles is also part of the US squad for the upcoming Hyundai World Archery Championships in Gwangju, Korea. Olympic silver medallist Nam Suhyeon, however, is not part of Korea’s senior team for the worlds – a reminder of the nation’s incredible depth – but she returns to international competition here in Essen. She’ll be joined in the recurve women’s team by another Shanghai winner, Lee Gahyun, who is also set for Nanjing.
