Bangkok opens race for last quota places

The 1st Asian Grand Prix is also the first major outdoor tournament of the year. It will run in Bangkok from 15 to 19 February 2012. Many of the top Asian and European teams are in Bangkok to get their first benchmarks for the Olympic year. Last year the French team took the top places and they are back with a strong men’s and women’s team. The French team is just back from a preparation in Australia where several new French records were established. The other team to watch is Russia that just had an excellent World Archery Indoor Championships. It will be interesting to see how they managed the 15-hour time difference as well as the long trip from Las Vegas. All major Asian countries are expected to show their strength. The newly formed Colon company team will represent Korea and the Shanghai team is representing China. The Indian and Japanese delegations will be for sure among the medal contenders in the team competition. The following 30 Countries are participating: Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, Spain, France, Great Britain, Georgia, Hong Kong China, India, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kazakhstan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Switzerland, Thailand, Chinese Taipei and Vietnam. There are 236 participants which makes it by far the biggest ever Asian Grand Prix.
