World Cup Stage 3 – Quotes of the Day 2

World Cup Stage 3 – Quotes of the Day 2 Antalya – 3 June 2009   Today was the qualification day for recurve men and compound women athletes with long distances in the morning and short ones in the afternoon. Find below some quotes from the archers. We asked them the following questions: - What do you thing about the new World Archery logo? - How will you qualify for the World Archery Championships 2009 this coming September in Ulsan (KOR)? - How was your shooting today? Recurve   Juan-Rene SERRANO (MEX) On a scale from 1 to 10, I would give a 7.5. I must say I also like the World Cup logo a lot which is very dynamic.   We have a long road to Ulsan. In September 2008, we started with our trials. At the end of each trial, you can score points. The next trial will be this month and the last one in July. After the sixth and final trial, the top three archers in each category will be selected for Ulsan.   Wiebke NULLE (GER) - coach I like the shape of the logo. Maybe I like the colours a little less.   During the World Cups, we rotate between our six men and seven women to get international experience. The two official trials will be held in July and consist of two FITA rounds where the athletes can score points to make the teams for the World Championships in Ulsan. After the second FITA, the top eight will shoot a round robin to decide the final team. The team that is going to Shanghai will be our world championships’ team.   Marc DELLENBACH (FRA) – head coach Our selection trials will take place at the end of June and at the end of July. In June, our trials are opened to every French archers, everyone can compete. Archers will have to shoot two FITA Rounds in two days, then on the third day, only the top eight archers will shoot a final round. The same competition format will be done in July. Archers are grabbing points regarding their rank and the addition of their matches during the final rounds.   Jean-Charles VALLADONT (FRA) I prefer the old FITA logo: on the new one, I think the target colours are missing.   I have really tried my best to shoot well at long distances. My elbow is still hurting me, but it was also hurting me in Porec three weeks ago. I succeeded to finish 3rd there!   Jeff HENCKELS (LUX) This new logo is modern but, to me, it’s a kind of “childish” logo, less serious in some ways.   Claire DOYLE (GBR) – Team official Well, it looks quite modern. After my first glance at it, it didn’t breathe archery directly. Maybe it needs a target in there. To me, as a non-archer, that would tell me more.   Thomas AUBERT (FRA) It’s been a pretty hard day today, I did not start well at 90m. On the other hand, I am very happy with the good score of 339 points at 50m. My ranking is quite good because it’s better than what I am used to. Anyway, the competition is not over yet !   Ivan DENIS (BEL) I was competing for the first time at this senior level, and I am pretty disappointed with my shooting. My feelings were gone and I fell quickly down the ranking. I was unable to go back to a good level.   Lawrence GODFREY (GBR) It’s been a slow start, I couldn’t find good feelings. Things went better at 50m, I made my personal best with 341 points. I am happy with my ranking because I have been working hard all the day long for that. Tomorrow is a day off but I will keep working on my form, especially at 70m.   Crispin DUENAS (CAN) My day started really well. Then troubles came at 70m: to say it cold, my arrows didn’t reach the middle of the target ! I felt better then at 30m. I can’t wait shooting the final rounds because I feel confident. I know what I have to do.   Compound   Ivana BUDEN (CRO) I really like the “happy colours” of the new logo. I like the traditional logo as well. We are looking forward to the new logo, because it will definitely appeal more to the future athletes of our sport. It’s very much “of this time”.   Albina LOGINOVA (RUS) I like the logo because it looks very fresh. The colours really stand out and it gives a very modern look on archery.   Peter FEENEY (AUS) – Compound head coach for India There will be a selection trial in Calcutta. Archers will have to finish in the top three to go to the world championship in Ulsan. We will be there with a full team of 12 athletes. So the selection trials will decide who goes there. There are no fixed spots for the team.   Joanna CHESSE (FRA) I was really confident at 70 meters this morning, I ranked 3rd at the end of it. Then, I can’t really explain why, but I did a lower score at 60m. I did some 7s and a 6.   Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) The weather has not been so good today … However, everything went fine for me. This is my fourth 1400 points in a row this year. I really feel strong and accurate.   Eugenia SALVI (ITA) I had many difficulties during the long distances. It’s been better then at 50m as my concentration grew more and more. I suffered a lot from all my efforts this morning when we started at 30m, I felt very tired. In spite of, I keep feeling satisfied from my shooting today, even if this changing weather didn’t help me at all.   Dean ALBERGA Jean-Denis GITTON FITA Communication
