Top 8 seeds will play the Recurve Men W1/W2 quarterfinals

Matches are played with five sets of three arrows. There is two points to win per set (one point in case of tie) and the first athlete with 6 set points is the winner!   Recurve Men W1/W2 Notable match of the first round Peter HIGGINS (GBR) beat Ahmet YILMAZLAR (TUR) 6-4 (12-22, 19-18, 24-15, 12-21, 18-16).   In the 1/16 elimination, Oscar DE PELLEGRIN (ITA) faced Vladimir SARZHEVSKIY (RUS). The Italian started the match by taking the lead 2-0. In the second set, the Italian continued on a high pace with 9-9-9 against 8-5-8 of the Russian, closing the second set 4-0. Despite the perfect X10 scored by SARZJEVSKIY in the third set (6-X10-8) DE PELLEGRIN snatched the match and won 6-0.   Two archers from Chinese Taipei met on target 26. CHEN Hsin Yao faced his best seeded teammate TSENG Lung Hui. TSENG started with a bad arrow on the 6 ring, but he soon recovered with a 10 and an 8, gaining the first 2 set points. CHEN started the second set with a 4 and TSENG, feeling more confident, shot a 9. CHEN could not catch up with his teammate, who won the second set 4-0. In the final set TSENG scored an almost perfect 29, snatching the victory 6-0.   Tight match for Paul BROWNE (GBR) and Russell WOLFE (USA). The two archers tied two times at 3-3 and 5-5 and the shoot-off gave the opportunity to BROWNE to clinch the victory with a 7 against WOLFE’s 5.   In the 1/8 eliminations the No. 5 BROWNE continued his way against the No. 12 Changjie CHANG (CHN). The match went to the limit of the five sets and BROWNE made the difference when he won the last two sets, 7-3 (26-25, 26-28, 27-27, 27-26, 26-22). All the other favourites went through in three or four sets, meaning the seeds 1-8 will play in quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon. Bronze and gold medal matches will be played on Sunday.   Recurve Men Standing In a very close match R.G.W. WILMALASOORIYA (SRI) tied Luis Jose MARTINEZ (VEN) two times at 3-3 and 5-5 in the 1/24 elimination. In the shoot-off MARTINEZ shot first a 9, while the athlete from Sri Lanka could not do better than 8. Victory for MARTINEZ 6-5 (26-17, 24-24, 22-26, 20-19, 17-20, T9-T8). Another athlete from Sri Lanka Jagath WEERATHUNGA posted a come-back victory over the well-known Murray ELLIOT (GBR) 6-4 (13-21, 21-25, 22-19, 24-11, 26-25).   During the second round the Italian Mario ESPOSITO (ITA) faced the best seeded Timur TUCHINOV (RUS). In the first set the Russian favourite took the lead 2-0, but the Italian archer had a burst of pride and came back 2-2. Nevertheless the Italian could not stand up to the Russian who clinched both the third and the fourth set, winning 6-2. There was also a tight match for Fabrice MEUNIER (FRA) and Nezhad ALIKHANI (IRI). The French started the match 2-0, but ALIKHANI soon recovered and the two archers kept tying the match. In the end MEUNIER won the match thanks to a 9 in the shoot-off, while ALIKHANI scored an 8.   During the 1/8 elimination round DONG Zhi (CHN) faced Sakon INKAEW (THA). After an initial tie (28-28) DONG took the lead and won the match 6-2 (28-28, 27-26, 26-25, 28-28). Another tight match took place between LEE Hak Young (KOR) and Mikhail OYUN (RUS). The two athletes started the match with a tie (25-25). LEE won the second set 28-23, but OYUN recovered with a 27 against LEE’s 24 and tied the match. The fourth set (26-26) did not solve the tie. Then OYUN won the final set 28-27 to claim victory 6-4!   The teams will play their matches all the way to the gold medals on Friday.
