Porec hosts again Archery World Cup Stage 2!

This little town in Croatia on the Adriatic Sea hosted the very first World Cup competition back in 2006. Once again Porec will offer quite a challenge for the archers with final matches shot over the water in the beautiful Marina. However, the mission for the archers stays the same: hit the centre and get the points to qualify for the World Cup Final in Copenhagen (DEN) in September.   Recurve Men This category is always very much open and those who did not earn World Cup points in Santo Domingo have a chance to fight back in Porec. KIM Sky (AUS), Thomas AUBERT (FRA), CHENG Chu Sian (MAS), LI Wenquan and XUE Hai Feng (CHN), Markiyan IVASHKO (UKR) as well as the 2007 World Cup winner Baljinima TSYREMPILOV (RUS) are among these. They will have to catch on the likes of Brady ELLISON (USA), Rafal DOBROWLSKI (POL), Simon TERRY (GBR), former Olympic champion Marco GALIAZZO (ITA) photo and the Indian foursome Rahul BANERJEE, Mangal Singh CHAMPIA, Jayanta TALUKDAR and VISWASH. Other archers in the hunt include Laurence GODFREY and Al WILLS (GBR), Daniel MORILLO (ESP) and the youth world champion Luca MELOTTO (ITA).   Recurve Women Five times Olympians Natalia VALEEVA ((ITA) and Alison WILLIAMSON (GBR) photo placed first and second in Santo Domingo. The 2007 World Cup winner Dola BANERJEE (IND) was third. These ladies will try to build on their lead in the ranking. The 2008 World Cup winner Justyna MOSPINEK (POL) hopes for a comeback together with her teammates, Malgorzata CWIENCZEK and Iwona MARCINKIEWICZ. The Olympic team medallist Berengere SCHUH (FRA), as well as Viktoriya KOVAL (URK), Natalya ERDYNIYEVA (RUS), Elena TONETTA and Pia Carmen LIONETTI (ITA), all need to earn points as well.   Compound Men Santo Domingo saw almost all the top archers of this category compete. However, Porec will also have many strong entries. The top four of the 2008 World Cup will be present, Dietmar TRILLUS (CAN), Patrizio HOFER (SUI), Patrick COGHLAN (AUS) and Sergio PAGNI (ITA), respectively. The same goes for the 2007 World Cup edition’s top four, namely Jorge JIMENEZ (ESA), Braden GELLENTHIEN (USA), Roberval DOS SANTOS (BRA) and Sebastien BRASSEUR (FRA). Among the outsiders, the fans should look at Kevin TATARYN (CAN), Martin DAMSBO (DEN), Pierre Julien DELOCHE (FRA), Peter ELZINGA (NED) photo, Morgan LUNDIN (SWE) and the youth world championships silver medallist Demir ELMAAGACLI (TUR)   Compound Women The 2008 finalist in Lausanne, Ivana BUDEN (CRO), carries the best hope for a home podium in her country. Of course, the 2008 World Cup winner Jamie VAN NATTA (USA) photo remains as the big favourite. She will face some of her arch-rivals such as Nichola SIMPSON (GBR), Sofia GONCHAROVA, Gladys WILLEMS (BEL) and Eugenia SALVI (ITA). Among the younger generation, let’s look at Albina LOGINOVA (RUS), Anastasia ANASTASIO (TIA) Anne LAURILLA (FIN), Luzmary GUEDEZ (VEN) and Camilla SOEMOD (DEN).   The competition will start with a FITA Round as qualifications on Tuesday 5 May!   Didier MIEVILLE FITA Communication
