World Cup Stage 2 – Quotes of the Individual Finals

Recurve Men   Jayanta TALUKDAR (IND) – Gold Medal (second win in three editions) I guess Porec is a lucky charm for me. Winning for the second time a World Cup stage here is a great feeling. The organisation, the people, the place, all is good here. This time it was tougher to win with the final field by the sea. We needed to adapt, especially to the water around us. That’s OK, that’s part of the show!   Recurve Women   ZHAO Ling (CHN) – Gold Medal (individual and team) Actually I really enjoyed the place. The view is so beautiful from the shooting line. Of course, some arrows were challenging but I kept my composure and I tried my best on every shot. Results simply come from the way you shoot, not the other way around.   Compound Men   Sergio PAGNI (ITA) – Gold Medal (second win in a row in Porec) This time it was really a close match. I knew that with only a 1-point advantage over an archer like Jorge JIMENEZ I could not relax. Jorge had a kind of year off last season, but he is on his way back to the top. Like last year, the wind came down this afternoon and I stayed very much focused until the end to preserve this 1-point advantage. I hope the people enjoyed the show and the view from here!   With this second win in individual and other great results in team, I can say that Porec is a happy place for me. I hope FITA continues to organise a World Cup stage here in the coming years.   Paul TITSCHER (GER) – Bronze Medal At the beginning my knees were shaking and I was all over the 9-ring. It was like I designed the dots of a clock. I am glad at the end I could settle down just in time to tie the game and win in the shoot-off. That field was awesome! This is why we do it!   Compound Women   Nicky HUNT (GBR) – Gold Medal The first end was shaky. Then I shot well except for the 8 points on the tenth arrow when my sight was off. It all came down to the last arrow and it was tough. Now it’s a surreal feeling to have won. I have been waiting for a chance since I was in a bronze medal match in Dover in 2007. On Thursday during the eliminations, it all fell down into place and I carried it until today!   Ivana BUDEN (CRO) – Silver Medal I had two bad shots, the first one and the last one. That was too much. Maybe I sounded relax, but I was nervous at the beginning. I came down a bit and I had a few good shots but they ended in the 9, not in the 10. Still I managed to tie the game later on until that last bad shot.   Of course I am disappointed now because I wanted to win in front of my home crowd. However, it has been a great week. The 1400 scores, the final, all were great. Archery people came from all over Croatia to organise this event. They are great and I thank them very much!   Andrea WEIHE (GER) – Bronze Medal I was second at the Roveretto Grand Prix in 2004. That was a long time ago. Since then I had a little daughter and I came back progressively to competitions. It’s really a high point to win this bronze. I was nervous to be on such a final field but I could control it.   I will be difficult to qualify for the World Cup Final because there are so many good archers. It comes down to a bit of luck and the way you shoot that day. I will go to Antalya to do my best and we’ll see for the future.   Didier MIEVILLE FITA Communication
