World Archery President Prof Dr Ugur Erdener has been appointed president of SportAccord for a four-year term ahead of the annual international federation summit in Lausanne.

“I am grateful for the confidence of my colleagues and look forward to serving SportAccord as president over the next four years,” said Prof Dr Erdener.

He thanked the outgoing president, Ivo Ferriani, and the executive committee for their work transforming the organisation, which also approved new statutes during the meeting, focusing the body’s work on organising its annual industry events.

Its flagship is the SportAccord World Sport and Business Summit, which will next take place in Birmingham in 2024 and connects international federation executives with business leaders.

Prof Dr Erdener will lead a new executive board which now consists of representatives from SportAccord’s four constituent members. These are the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF), the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations (AIOWF), the Association of IOC recognised International Sports Federations (ARISF) and the Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS).

President of World Archery since 2005 and the Turkish Olympic Committee since 2011, Prof Dr Ugur Erdener was elected a member of the International Olympic Committee in 2008 and served as a vice president from 2016 to 2020.

He is currently also an executive committee member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and vice president of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations (ASOIF).
