IOC President committed to attend World Games Opening Ceremony

The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr Jacques ROGGE, will attend the Opening Ceremony of The 9th World Games in Cali, Colombia, on 24 July 2013. Ron FROEHLICH, President of the International World Games Association (IWGA), made this announcement to the IWGA General Meeting held concurrently with the 2011 SportAccord Convention in London. FROEHLICH proceeded to thank Christophe DUBI, the IOC Sports Director, for ensuring that President Rogge had reserved the date in the agenda at this early point already. IOC President ROGGE has always kept close ties to the multi-sport games. At their first edition in Santa Clara, USA, in 1981, he served as Chef de Mission for the Belgian World Games delegation. From 1998 to 2000, while already a member of the IOC Executive Board, he assisted IWGA in developing the games further as the IOC Delegate to the IWGA Executive Committee. The World Games have been held under the patronage of the IOC for the first time in 2001. Source: IWGA Edited by World Archery Communication
