WILDE again!

Reo WILDE added one more crown to his record—or actually kept the Indoor World Cup crown he won last year. Joana CHESSE (FRA) won in Compound Women, Ksenia PEROVA (RUS) in Recurve Women and Braaaaadddy ELLISON (USA)won the Indoor World Cup Final, after winning the last two outdoor World Cup Final. The top 16 indoor athletes of each category from the Stages in Singapore, Nimes and Las Vegas took on the Equestrian Centre at the South Point Casino for the Indoor World Cup Final in front of a… wild crowd! Best of 5 sets (three arrows) matches were shot from 1/8 eliminations to the title match! There are two points per set; first archer to six set points wins. Recurve Men No. 1 in the world Brady ELLISON (USA) had a clean sheet (all 10s for 6-0, 6-0) in the first two rounds before meeting Thomas AUBERT (FRA) in semi-final. Jake KAMINSKI (USA) defeated 2007 Indoor world champion Sebastian ROHRBERG (GER) in the quarterfinal to reach the semis against Matteo FISSORE (ITA) The gold medal match of the World Cup Final turned out to be the revenge of the indoor championships semifinal between ELLISON and KAMINSKI. Last Wednesday, KAMINSKI won in the shoot-off. In the semifinals, ELLISON beat AUBERT and KAMINSKI defeated FISSORE on the same score: 6-2. For 3rd place, FISSORE defeated AUBERT 6-4. ELLISON and KAMINSKI started with 10-10-10 each! ELLISON continued with 10-10-…9. KAMINSKI had 10-10-…8. He could have taken the advantage and instead Brady had a 2-point lead. In the third set, both archers had 10-10- and 9*, meaning close to the line. However, both 9* was indeed out—tied set. ELLISON still led 4-2 in set points. In the fourth set, both archers scored 10-10-10 again! ELLISON led 5-3, just like last Wednesday. In the fifth, KAMINSKI scored 10-10-and a 9. Not enough to put pressure on Brady this time. ELLISON matched the 10-10-9 and won it 6-4! Recurve Women In the semifinals, Lisa UNRUH (GER) met with the always tough Naomi FOLKARD (GBR) and the bronze medallist from Thursday Ksenia PEROVA (RUS) met with the defender Indoor World Cup Louise LAURSEN (DEN). FOLKARD beat UNRUH 6-4, while PEROVA defeated LAURSEN 6-2. The winner of the Nimes UNRUH got a 3rd place here, defeating LAURSEN, 6-2. The final was the rematch of the bronze medal match at the world championships last Thursday. PEROVA took the bronze 7-1 at that occasion, and she impressive again today. She scored eight 10s out of 12 arrows to take the match 6-2! Compound Men It was not really a surprise to have all-American semifinals: Reo WILDE – Dave COUSINS and Braden GELLENTHIEN – Ben CLELAND. To note WILDE defeated his last year Nemesis Rodger WILLET JR in quarterfinals and the young CLELAND beat Sergio PAGNI (ITA). CLELAND trailed most part of the semis against GELLENTHIEN but managed to force a shoot-off in the last set coming back at 5-5. However Braden was more solid in the shoot-off: he found a 10, while CLELAND shot a 9. In the other semi, WILDE got the best COUSINS, 7-3. The bronze medal was a very tight match between CLELAND and COUSINS. The first four sets were tie! CLELAND was perfect in the last set (30-29) to win the match 6-4! WILDE – GELLENTHIEN, this match up weights more than a dozen gold medals at world championships, to say the least. GELLENTHIEN opened the match with a 9 however, and that cost him the first set (29-30). WILDE had his brother Logan as coach, while GELLENTHIEN had CLELAND, whom he just beat in the semifinal. Both archers scored 30 in the second set. WILDE has his father Dee as agent, while GELLENTHIEN had fellow archer Duncan BUSBY (GBR) – double Commonwealth champion in 2010. Both archer scored 30 in the third set. GELLENTHIEN opened the fourth set was a 9. That was it. Reo scored another 10-10-10 giving no chance to Braden. WILDE won 6-2! Compound Women It was an all-French quarterfinal between Sandrine VANDIONANT and Pascal LEBECQUE. VANDIONANT won it 6-4 and she was joined in semifinals by Naomi JONES (GBR), Joanna CHESSE (FRA) and Camilla SOEMOD (DEN) who defeated Petra ERICSSON (SWE) in the Nordic dual. It will be an all-French final in this category. VANDIONANT defeated JONES 7-3, while CHESSE beat SOEMOD 6-4. JONES took bronze after a shoo-off against SOEMOED! Both archers scored 9, but JONES was the closest to the centre. VANDIONANT started with a perfect set to take a 2-0 lead. However CHESSE found the 10 ring much more in the next two sets to take a 4-2 lead. Then the athletes traded 9-9-9; CHESSE lead 5-3. VANDIONANT scored 9-9-10 in the fifth, CHESSE had 9-9-…9. Shoot-off! CHESSE killed the spider with her arrow (bull’s eye)! VANDIONANT had 9- gold for CHESSE! World Archery Communication
