Zagreb 2014 is Irene FRANCHINI’s opportunity to get on track and prove why she’s one of Italy’s most well-know recurve and compound archers. Last time Irene competed in field with her national squad was at Wales 2008 were she was fifth.

In 2003, FRANCHINI got interested in shooting compound. She liked but no more than recurve, so better than to choose one division, she decided to compete with both bowstyles.

“I do recurve for target and field archery events, and compound for 3D competitions – where I have been focus lately,” the Riom 1999 world target archery champion said. “For me, it’s easy to swift from recurve to compound. Recurve is all about strength and compound… I find it more relaxing.”

Her absence from the international field stage was for one big reason: she became a mother in 2010.

“I didn’t compete at the last two world field champs because I had my two babies, coincidentally, in the same years: 2010 and 2012. It was like a small break from archery.”

But FRANCHINI didn’t stop at all. Actually, she has been competing and scoring the top positions at European championships and different 3D archery events.

At Zagreb 2014, Irene is shooting recurve: “I expect nice courses and to shoot well as I hope this can be a good experience after all these years!”
